WMC Loses Sole Provider Status
The Wyoming Medical Center has lost its sole medicare provider status, which will cost the hospital nearly $16 million.
Federal officials say their decision is based on the fact that Mountain View Regional Hospital admits more than 8-percent of the patients in the Natrona county area.
The Wyoming Medical Center had expected the decision, and put a cost cutting plan in place in October. The hospital says that move has been successful so far, and that business performance for the first five months of the fiscal year has been strong.
However, WMC Chief Executive Officer Vickie Diamond says an additional determination to make the federal funding cuts retroactive to January of 2010 puts additional strain on the hospital.
The Wyoming Medical Center plans to appeal the decision.
