Converse County Bridge Destroyed in Fire
A one lane wooden bridge over the North Platte river in Converse County was destroyed in a fire this morning.
Authorities say the fire broke out about 4:30 a.m. The Coal Shadow bridge was fully involved in flames when crews from both Converse and Natrona county arrived. They were unable to save the structure, and were still on the scene several hours later.
Fire investigators from Cheyenne are looking into the cause of the fire, but neighbors tell K2 they thought it was started by someone shooting off fireworks.
No other structures were damaged, and there were no injuries reported in the fire.
Neighbors said around 60 cars used the bridge on a daily basis, and will now have to be detoured to the Cole Creek Road bridge a few miles to the east.
