Officials Examine Future of Casper Mtn. Parks
County officials say one park on Casper Mountain has been destroyed by the Sheep Herder Hill Fire.
Fire officials confirmed at a parks meeting Wednesday afternoon, that Ponderosa Park is completely destroyed and closed to the public for an indefinite amount of time.
The fire also threatened Crimson Dawn. Parts of the beginning trail are burnt, but the rest of the trail remains intact along with the museum. Officials feared the fire could have destroyed the museum and did make sure all the items were removed.
Authorities confirmed at the meeting that nearly 2,000 acres of county park land was burned in the fire. Officials are now in talks of how to rebuild and restore the destroyed parks and recreation areas.
