A man is dead following a plane crash at Laramie Regional Airport Friday afternoon.

At around 2:50 p.m. Laramie Police and Fire Departments responded to a call of a plane that had crashed at the airport and was on fire. The man, who was the sole occupant of the plane, was found dead at the scene.

The crash also started a grass fire that burned about 10 acres of grassland in the area, but crews were able to extinguish the blaze.

According to a press release from the Laramie Police Department, the plane was registered in Minnesota. No further information was available Friday evening and phone calls to Laramie Police and the Albany County Sheriff's office were unsuccessful.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have been contacted and were scheduled to arrive in Laramie on Saturday to conduct an investigation.
