Casper to Allow Businesses in Residential Area

By a close vote of five to four, the Casper City Council will allow certain businesses to set up in residential areas.

Mayor Paul Bertoglio says these businesses will mostly be professional offices, like a dentist or coffee shop, as an example.

Planning and Zoning must determine there is enough parking and other logistics before granting a conditional permit to business.

"One of the big concerns is, these type of changes are going to occur in the middle of residential areas," Bertoglio said.  "The reality is where we are seeing this demand is on the fringes where you are a block off of 2nd Street on either side or you're in a high traffic area on CY."

Bertoglio says this will allow homes in these areas, which may have diminished value, an alternative for re-sale.
