Storm Brings Snow, Dangerous Travel Conditions

School will be closed across Laramie County on Wednesday. Both Laramie County School District 1 & 2 announced Tuesday evening that all classes are canceled.
Laramie County Community College has also announced that campus will be closed on Wednesday due to the weather. Closure includes the Cheyenne campus as well as the outreach sites in Pine Bluffs and on F.E. Warren Air Force Base. The Albany County campus is expected to remain open, however.
As of 9:45 p.m., I-25 was closed from Cheyenne to Glendo. The southbound on-ramps at Glendo and Douglas were also closed. I-80 was closed from Rock Springs to Cheyenne.
The latest spring snowstorm is dumping several inches of snow across the state, prompting winter storm warnings for much of central and eastern Wyoming. Strong winds have created near whiteout conditions and drifting in many areas.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Casper had received 6 inches of snow. Areas in southeastern Wyoming had been hit harder from the storm that began on Monday morning. So far, Cheyenne had received 7 inches of snow. Riverton's snow total was 5 inches and Lander and seen 8-11 inches.
Forecasters say more snow is on the way through Wednesday morning.
The storm forced the closure of a majority of Interstate 80 on Tuesday. As of 4 p.m., I-80 was closed from Rawlins to Cheyenne due to hazardous conditions. I-25 from Cheyenne to the state border was also closed along with a handful of other state highways.
In Casper, the wintery weather caused five crashes on I-25 during the morning commute. While several cars were involved, Highway Patrol was unable to provide any details as to injuries. According to Casper Police there have been at least 11 accidents since midnight on Tuesday, including three hit and runs. No injuries were reported in those crashes.
Schools remained open across much of the state, but students in Cheyenne were sent home early. While schools in Casper remained open throughout Tuesday, all after school activities were canceled.
Evening classes and events at Casper College were also canceled and LCCC closed its doors at 1 p.m.
City offices closed early in Cheyenne with some employees being sent home from work as early as noon. Cheyenne's bus service stopped at 3 p.m. due to the snow.
