The number of severe storms has been high compared to the last few years, and the Natrona County Emergency Management office is reminding the public what outdoor warning sirens are for.
The sirens are used if the National Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm warning, a tornado warning or a flash flood warning.
In addition to the weather warnings, the sirens are also used to alert the public in the case of a chemical or hazardous material release.
When the siren is activated, the public should tune into a local TV or radio station.
Once the warning has passed, a distinct air horn sound will be broadcast over the sirens.
