Park Ranger Recovering After Weekend Shootout

A Wyoming park ranger is recovering after being shot near Glendo State Park.
Ranger Phil Martindale and a Platte County Sheriff's deputy responded to a drunken driving report Friday night on the east side of Glendo Reservoir. As officers stopped the vehicle, the suspect, identified as 57-year-old Jerry Jochim, fled the scene. The pursuit led to a home east of the reservoir where Martindale was shot. Officers returned fire, killing Jochim.
According to the Platte County Attorney's office, Martindale was flown to Wyoming Medical Center in Casper and is progressing rapidly. "He's in good condition, considering he was shot," said Domenic Bravo of the Wyoming State Parks Department. "[He is] excited that he's up and out of ICU. [Doctors] have moved him to a regular room at the hospital."
