Package Temporarily Closes Mills Post Office

A postal official says a pharmaceutical powder was the suspicious substance that forced the closure of the Mills Post Office for much of the day.  The powder was leaking from a package that was discovered around nine o'clock this morning.

Multiple agencies were called to the scene, including the Fire Department's Hazardous Materials team.  Initial field tests of the substance came back inconclusive, so a sample was taken to an off-site testing center. Those tests determined what the powder was.

The post office re-opened shortly after noon, and the package was delivered to the person it was addressed to.
