One Dead in Train-Pickup Truck Collision

One man is dead after a train crashed into his pickup truck around 5:15 Monday morning, west of Casper on North 6 Mile Road.

Authorities haven't released many details on the collision but the pickup was stopped on the railroad tracks when a westbound train hit it, throwing the pickup from the tracks. Emergency responders declared him dead at the scene. The coroner is not yet releasing the identity of the man.

It isn't known if the truck was stalled on the tracks or what exactly the man was doing. The Sheriff's office is still investigating. North 6 Mile Road is not used often and it's a dirt road where the accident happened, with several inches of snow still on the ground.

This is not a typical train crossing, there are no guards that come down or lights that illuminate when a train is approaching. No injuries were reported on the train and actual damage to the train remains unclear.
