Lander Hunter Models for Catalog Cover

 Victoria Fregoso reports, vfregoso@k2tv.com

A local hunter from Fremont County is featured on the cover of this year's Brunton catalog.
The company distributes outdoor and hunting gear nationwide.

Former welder and Lander Police Chief turned hunter and taxidermist Gene Galitz can now add modeling to his resume.

"I was quiet shocked, I've never been asked to be a model before," said Galitz. "Been asked to do a lot of things, but not model."

Brunton, a company that specializes in hunting and outdoor gear approached Gene and asked if he would like to be featured in 2012's hunting catalog.

"We have several pairs of their binoculars, my wife just got me a spotting scope for Christmas this year. In my opinion, they are the best optics that you can get."

Not only is Gene a loyal customer to Brunton, but according to the company, he has "the look".

"I had the look they were after for conveying an outdoor adventurer using Brunton products."

All decked out in camouflage and wearing some of Brunton's newest gear, Gene had to brave frigid, waste deep river water and slippery rocks for nearly 45 minutes. He admits to being a little nervous but he is pleased with the final product.

"Not to brag, but I think it's a pretty cool picture."

At the time, Gene didn't know his face would be on the catalog cover, let alone the side of a semi trailer.
He says he was quite surprised.

"They have a committee I guess, that goes through all of the pictures and decides what they want for the cover and this year happened to be me."

Although he enjoyed the photo shoot, Gene plans on sticking with what he knows best.

"I'm now doing full time taxidermy, "Fins and Feathers Taxidermy". My modeling career I think is probably going to be a short one, I don't expect there will be much call," Gene said with a smile.
