Police: Kelly Walsh Rumors

Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh says rumors about any kind incident that was supposed to happen today at Kelly Walsh high school were "not substantiated."

Chief Walsh says numerous postings on social media sites and subsequent text messages prompted him to speak to reporters this morning. He says the rumors included everything from a shooting to explosives in the school.

Walsh says his own children, as well as those of the school's principal attended class today. However, police did pay extra attention to the high school. "We are taking precautions as well as the school." said Chief Walsh. "We did a sweep of the school before any of the students came to school this morning." Walsh added that Casper Police and the school officials would be on high alert for the rest of the day.

The rumors did coincide with the 13th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado. However, Chief Walsh says he does not believe that any of the threats at Kelly Walsh were linked to the anniversary. Walsh says the timing is "an unusual coincidence."
