Crews Extinguish Oil Well Fire Near Cheyenne

Fire crews from across Laramie County responded to an oil well fire that broke out near County Road 136 east of Cheyenne this morning.

The fire started in an oil treater owned by SM Energy and authorities say flames reached as high as 200 feet. However, firefighters quickly gained the upper hand, and the blaze was out by early afternoon.

Officials are continuing to monitor the scene. No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.

Two young brothers living in the area said they saw black smoke and flames coming from the well. "I was kind of worried. I heard fire trucks," said Golden Amburgey. "We looked with binoculars and we saw an oil rig on fire," added his older brother Mylz.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
