Buchanan to Retire Next Year

University of Wyoming president Tom Buchanan is stepping down at the end of the school year.

Buchanan made the announcement Thursday during his annual "State of the University" speech in Laramie.

Buchanan became president of the Wyoming's only four year university in July of 2005. However, he has been employed by the university for more than 30 years. Buchanan began as an assistant professor, after graduating from the University of Illinois with his doctorate in 1979.

Buchanan received his master's degree from UW four years earlier.
