Good news for Verizon customers: The wireless company is bringing 4G LTE service to Casper.

4G is the fourth generation of cellphone communication standards, and offers faster speeds than 3G service. For example, a Verizon representative says customers can download and upload data on their phones ten times faster than before.

"Mobile data is the fastest growing technology in our industry right now," said Verizon spokesman Bob Kelley. "More and more people are using smart phones, tablets, other applications to take up an enormous amount of data spectrum. For [Verizon] to invest and stay ahead of that demand, and to lead in technology, is something Verizon Wireless does."

The Oil City marks the fourth city in Wyoming to have 4G LTE service, after Cheyenne, Gillette, and Sheridan. Verizon plans to expand service in other parts of the Cowboy State, including Riverton and Rock Springs.

Verizon's goal is to expand the high-speed data service to all of the U.S. by the end of 2013. As of now, the service is reaching nearly 80% of the nation's population, as Verizon slowly phases out the 3G network.
