Robert J. Sternberg, who is the current vice-president and provost at Oklahoma State Oniversity, will become the 24th president of the University of Wyoming.
University trustees voted unanimously to select Sternberg during a teleconference shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Sternberg has been the "number-two" man at Oklahoma State since 2010. He is a renowned professor of psychology, has written more than 1,400 articles, and received more than $20 million in research grants. Sternberg earned his bachelors' degree at Yale and his doctorate at Stanford.
Sternberg was chosen just two days after trustees interviewed all four final candidates for the job at a hotel near the Denver airport.
He will replace current president Tom Buchanan, who is retiring on June 30th. Buchanan has led the University of Wyoming for the past eight years.
