Douglas Fires Chief of Police

Douglas Budget reports

The Douglas Budget is reporting Police Chief Ryan Evans has been fired after weeks of turmoil and an independent investigation into the police department.

City administrators Steve Henning says numerous policy and procedural violations are the main reason for Evans' termination.  He failed to elaborate on specifics.

Evans had been the Chief of Police since last June and was placed on probation Sunday before being let go by the city council by a four to one vote Monday night.

Only Douglas Mayor Bruce Jones voted to keep Evans as chief.

Two officers were also placed on unpaid suspension, just days after sergeant Ron Casalenda was reinstated.

Former Albany County Sheriff James F. Pond has given a verbal agreement to become interim police chief.
