A semi truck tipped on its side Thursday morning, creating a headache for several Casper drivers. The semi toppled over at the intersection of Poplar and 1st around 9:45 a.m spilling liquid onto the street.
The liquid, which the semi was hauling, was non-hazardous and did not pose a public health threat. However, first responders were quick to take all proper precautions in treating and cleaning up the minor spill. Responders on scene told K2 News that the liquid is some kind of chemical used in oil and gas drilling.
The semi was the only vehicle involved in the accident, and authorities say there was one driver inside the truck. No injuries were reported. Authorities say speed and high winds contributed to the semi tipping over. The driver was cited for careless driving and received a $110 fine.
Crews from several agencies closed the intersection and diverted traffic from the area. Traffic was noticeably slow in downtown Casper.
