The majority of the roads inside Yellowstone National Park closed at 8:00 this morning, as the park prepares for the winter season. The only road in the park that is open to wheeled vehicle traffic year round is the section from the north entrance at Gardiner, Montana, through Mammoth Hot Springs, as well as tower Junction and the Lamar Vvalley on to the park's northeast entrance, those roads provide the only winter access to Cooke city and Silver Gate, Montana. All other roads are shut down to allow snow to pile up commercially guided snowmobile and snowcoach travel. Snow permitting, they will re-open for the winter season on December 15th.
