Senator Enzi Proposes Two-Year Budgets
Senator Mike Enzi has introduced legislation that would require U.S. Congress to use biennial budgeting, or budgeting for every two years. The state of Wyoming uses such a budget system.
Enzi says a two-year budget cycle would allow more oversight and transparency. He says it also would allow Congress more time to consider individual appropriations bills instead of massive "take it-or-leave it" omnibus bills.
Enzi notes that under the current system, the nation has gone more than two years without a budget and is in trillions of dollars of debt.
Enzi is a member of the Senate Budget Committee.
