9/11 Fallen Firefighter Tribute

7:59 MOUNTAIN TIME. 15 YEARS AGO...AT THIS VERY MOMENT...ONE OF THE MOST TRAGIC DAYS IN U-S HISTORY BEGAN TO UNFOLD.
15 YEARS AGO, 343 FIREFIGHTERS MADE THEIR FINAL CLIMB TO TRY AND SAVE AS MANY PEOPLE AS THEY COULD...AND TODAY CASPER'S FINEST PAID TRIBUTE TO THEM BY MAKING A CLIMB OF THEIR OWN.
FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR THE SOUNDS OF FOOTSTEPS THUNDERED THROUGH THE STAIRWELL.
FIRE FIGHTERS TRADED OFF EQUIPMENT EVERY FEW MINUTES. ALL OF THEM SWEATING AND BREATHING HEAVILY...BUT NOBODY BACKED DOWN. JUST LIKE F-D-N-Y'S 3 TRUCK...FIFTEEN YEARS AGO.
AND ALONG WITH CASPER'S FIRE CREWS, WERE A FEW EVERY DAY FOLKS, INCLUDING CHILDREN...AND EVEN A NEWSMAN.
THEY LIVE FOR THIS KIND OF THING. EVEN FIRE CAPTAIN MATT TROTT, WHO IS BATTLING CANCER, MADE THE CLIMB..
AND TRUE TO FORM, ALMOST RIGHT ON CUE, AS SOON AS THE CLIMB HAD BEEN MADE...A CALL OF A STRUCTURE FIRE CAME IN...AND SURE ENOUGH THE FIRE CREWS RACED TO THEIR ENGINES AND WERE OFF...
SHOWING THAT NO MATTER HOW BEATEN, BATTERED, BROKEN, OR EXHAUSTED THEY ARE, THEY'LL GIVE IT ALL TO PROTECT US.
