The body of Lauri Thompson was found last Sunday night. But for Fremont County Sheriff's, the first big break in the case, as they arrested live-in boyfriend, Lance Clark, in connection with the case. Clark, who voluntarily turned himself into the Washakie County Sheriff for second degree murder.
In a statement released by the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, Undersheriff Ryan Lee said "The investigation has been centered around Clark as he denied being at the residence when the victim died, however investigators uncovered evidence that strongly suggests Clark was at the home during the victim's death"
The Fremont County Coroner's Office performed an autopsy on Lauri Thompson and determined a single gunshot to the head was the cause of death. Authorities said they didn't find a weapon near the body initially. But after a few days, deputies say that a .41 caliber revolver was found hidden inside the residence that they are now considering part of the murder. Clark was initially questioned the night of the murder as well.
According to authorities, Clark told officers that he found Thompson in the home. But a witness did tell investigators that they heard a big argument between them and a single gunshot from the house that night.
Multiple stories were associated with the case, but Sheriff's are now honing in on murder. Clark will later be transferred to Fremont County Jail, where he will face his charges in court Monday.
