FORT CASPAR MUSEUM HOSTED THEIR ANNUAL "CASPAR COLLINS DAY" SATURDAY. IT WAS ALL TO HONOR THE ORIGIN OF THE CITY OF CASPER NAMESAKE. DESPITE THE MISSPELLING, THE CITY OF CASPER WAS NAMED AFTER A 20 YEAR OLD LIEUTENANT IN THE US ARMY BY THE NAME OF CASPAR COLLINS. UNLIKE THE WAY WE SPELL CASPER, THE LIEUTENANT'S NAME WAS SPELLED WITH AN "A". COLLINS WAS KILLED IN 1865 IN THE "BATTLE OF PLATTE BRIDGE" IN PRESENT-DAY CASPER. FOLLOWING HIS DEATH, "PLATTE BRIDGE" WAS RENAMED "FT CASPAR" AS WELL AS THE CITY. WHICH WE KNOW AS PRESENT-DAY CASPER, WITH AN "E".
