A future rift between President Donald Trump's former Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon, and Senator John Barrasso, could now be a thing of the past.

"I continue to work closely with the President, for the benefit of the people of Wyoming," Barrasso says.

Barrasso confirmed Tuesday, that President Trump called him and said he will support Barrasso moving forward towards the 2018 Senate primary.

"(I) very much appreciate the President's public and private support. He's been very supportive. He knows that I've been working hard for his agenda," Barrasso says.

This comes after New York Times and Washington Post reports that Bannon is recruiting challengers to Senator Barrasso, the 4th ranking member of the GOP Senate.

"You always prepare for a primary and I'm prepared. But that's a long way off. People in Wyoming don't want a long campaign season."

Even before this call, Trump hinted he might have to push back against his former top advisor (Bannon).

" Steve is doing what Steve thinks is the right thing. Some of the people that he may be looking at, I'm going to see if we talk him out of that," said President Trump (October 16th, 2017)

Bannon and many Trump supporters have their sights set of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. As a member of Senate Leadership, Barrasso is a closely associated figure. Former Trump Campaign State Director, Bonnie Foster, has some advice.

"Get away from Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell is the target. And there are a lot of people in this state and a lot of people in northeast Wyoming that do not like Mitch McConnell," Foster says.

It is not like Barrasso hasn't voted with President Trump. Analytics website FiveThiryEight reports Barrasso has sided with the President all but two times - tied for the most among Senators.

"There hasn't been anything egregious. There has been no scandal. No real indication he is a vulnerable figure," Frankland says.
