K2 Gridiron Report: Douglas Bearcats

Douglas Senior Quarterback Ty Larson has been playing football for a long time with his teammates and now it's down to one final year.

"We've loved football since like Kindergarten. It's been a big part of my life and a big part of all of my friends' lives too. It's kind of sad it's our last time, but kind of cool we all get to do it together," Larson said.

"I like to stay at the pocket most of the time, but stuff breaks down and you always got to run," Larson said. "That's definitely a big advantage back there. You can see see a lot more and know what's going on."

"Ty is just a really smart player, a good headed player, a great leader also. That's what you got to take. He throws a great ball, but he's also a leader on the field, kind of that field general. Having that year of experience is really going to help him this year," Coach Jay Rhoades said.

"I trust him with the ball to throw and to hand it off to me. He's had almost three years of experience. He got a little bit of playing time as a sophomore," Running back Zach Hoopman said. "He was our guy last year, so our receivers are more experienced so we should be good."

Douglas is returning their quarterback but also depth at other positions.

"It means we have four or five guys at every position, they are all willing to learn and come out and play," Hoopman said.

"We have all of our line back, which is awesome. We have all state players on the outside at wide receiver and running back," Rhoades said.

Coach Jay Rhodes recognizes his 21 seniors share a close connection.

"Every year there's something that bonds a team, I feel like our whole senior group is special," Coach said.

"It's great to know that we've all played with each other, we know how to play. It's great and we can teach," Hoopman said.

"We've always been talking about going for it all, winning it all. Right now we are just focused on Powell the first week and getting that done, taking it one week at a time," Larson said. "They've gotten us the past couple of times, so we are looking for them this year, that's for sure."

The first game will be a rivalry game against Powell right here in Douglas, reporting in Douglas, Megan Salle, K2 Sports.
