Casper Native Competing For Team USA Triathlon

"It was just training runs that I qualified for Team USA," she said.

Michelle McClenahan got an email in February inviting her to wear the red white and blue in a International Triathlon Race...

"Representing the US is really a big deal, especially when there is so much turmoil. People don't understand how much we care for the country," she said.

Her love for America shines through as she wears her Team USA outfit and a smile. At first competing in a triathlon for Michelle Mcclenahan was just a challenge from her son.

"This all started when our youngest son came home and wanted to do a triathlon. He said, 'I just want to do a triathlon.' And so he did it and he did really well. Then about a year later, our oldest son came home and said, 'I want to do a triathlon. You can do it too, can't you Mom?'"

I had to learn how to swim and deathly afraid of the water. Putting my face in the water was so scary," she said. "So we signed up for a triathlon...and I just continued on," She said.

Swimming posed a challenge for McClenahan at first, but now it's not so scary.

"You can bike if you're tired of running or swimming and then if you need a little extra recovery, you can always swim. There's always something different to do and to learn," McClanahan said.

She will be competing in the Netherlands for a International Triathlon-Legal Sprint triathlon World Championship.

"I think it will be really cool to see the different culture and the different people. People from all different countries will be shown and it's really fun."

McClenahan and her husband can be spotting in Rotterdam September 14th to 17th.
