Erik Dean joined the K2 News team in April of 2014 and serves as the Chief Meteorologist. He grew up in Southern Indiana (He is a Hoosier.) where there are no mountains, just lumps. He knew at the age of 5 that he wanted to be a meteorologist. When he was younger, Erik had a fear for Severe weather, and soon that fear turned into pure passion for weather. As a child he would watch the weather on TV and look forward to the severe weather days in Kentucky and Indiana. His parents thought he was crazy for enjoying severe weather. To this day, they still do.
Erik became a Weather Watcher as a kid in school for the CBS affiliate in Louisville, KY. He would give reports as to what is going on his backyard.
As Erik got older, the passion for weather continued to grow. While in college, he studied and mentored under the best meteorologists in the Louisville market, and in 2012, he completed his goal of receiving his B.S. of Atmospheric Sciences. After that, he got his first broadcasting job in radio as engineer/meteorologist for WXKU-FM and WZZB-AM in his hometown of Seymour.
Erik is a member of the American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association and has attended conferences and workshops with several other meteorologists across the country.
Erik's hobbies include Skiing (Reminder, he is from Indiana, so he hasn't done any REAL skiing yet!), bowling, listening to music, trying different types of food, and exploring new parts of the country. But his main hobby is spending time with his son, who was born in April of 2012.
